Yay! I’m excited to be teaching this class with my awesome husband, Nate Summers!! Living our life full of Nourishing Life practices, following the Nourishing Life (Yang Sheng) philosophy and sharing this with others is one of our big passions! And this class gives us the opportunity to walk this journey together with you – renewing and revitalizing our mind, body, and spirit using deep teachings from ancient medical systems including Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Indigenous wisdom, and even ancient European healing traditions.
All classes will be recorded for your viewing convenience.

Nourishing Life ~ Cultivating Vitality, Longevity & Immunity During Challenging Times
This class gives you simple and powerful tools to embody and bring to life the ancient wisdom of Nourishing Life practices from traditions around the world. Nate and I will cover topics such as living in tune with the seasons, elixir and tonic herbs, a vital healthy diet, meditative and mindfulness practices, the circle-walking practice of Bagua, and most all a philosophy and wisdom that informs your daily life now and into the future.
Between the two of us, Nate and I have over 40 years combined experience teaching about Chinese Medicine, Natural Healing, and our connection to Nature. We have taught at venues such as Cascadia Music and Arts Festival, Imagine Arts Festival, the Pacific Women’s Herbal Conference, the Omega Institute and at Survival Skills Schools and Natural Medicine Schools around the country. And we are super excited to lead you into this journey each week! Yay!
- Each 90+ minute class will include Lecture,Question and Answer, Storytelling, and Practical Exercises plus simple take-home projects and exercises each week.
- Each class will also include a Movement and Vital Energy Cultivation break in the middle.
- Ample time for Q&A will be provided during and at the end of class, as needed.
- Tentative schedule posted below subject to change based on the needs of participants.
- Recordings of the classes will be made available to all participants.
- Videos can be viewed at any time.

Each week an email will go out to participants with a summary of what we covered, access to a video link of the class, and exercises to practice and do.

Karen Joy Fletcher, MPH is a writer, Qigong teacher and ambassador of Chinese medicine and healing arts. She loves sharing her passions and the wisdom she’s gained through her teachers and studies in the East, West and the majestic forests and mountains around our Planet. She is a personal student of Grandmaster Xu Mingtang of the Zhong Yuan Qigong lineage, has studied and traveled extensively with him at Shaolin Monastery in China and worldwide. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and also is a long-time student and interpreter for Master Chinese Medicine doctor, Dr. Zhao Fuxue. Karen co-leads Qigong & Wilderness treks in Western China, and teaches Qigong and a playful and powerful nature-connection practice called Earthgym at schools, festivals, organizations and retreat centers throughout the U.S., Canada and China. Nate Summers, M.Ac. is the author of Primal: Why We Long to Be Wild and Free and Awakening Fire. He has been a survival skills instructor, martial arts teacher, and natural movement instructor for over 20 years. Nate is a 3rd-generation disciple in the Hunyuan Taijiquan lineage, and is a 20th-generation lineage holder in Chen-style Taijiquan. He served as the primary Animal Forms and Natural Movement teacher at the Wilderness Awareness School for over a decade. Nate’s teachers and mentor include Harrison Moretz/Zhi Cheng (founder and director of the Taoist Studies Institute), Jon Young, Mick Dodge, and Scott Sonnon.
