Zhong Yuan Qigong ~ Level 1 Big Tree 大樹功 & Self Healing Qigong
Do you love Trees? Trees are AMAZING! Not only are they one of the most powerful solutions for the climate crisis in sequestering carbon and restoring our Earth, they are also harbors of Peace, Wisdom, Strength, Stillness, Vitality and Longevity. And they are Givers of Life. Their forests create magical living landscapes home to diverse plants, insects, fungi, animals, birds, and they are wellsprings of Wonder, respite, rejuvenation, Enchantment, and the Sacred Mystery of Life.
Trees are some of our Earth’s original Qigong Grandmasters. They naturally gather immense amounts of Qi from the Earth and Sky. Gathering the cool Yin energy of the Earth, they raise it up to share with the sparkling stars and Cosmos. And gathering the bright Yang energy from the Sky, they draw it down from their branches and share it with the cool moist Earth.
This 5-week session focuses on one of the main Qigong practices found in all 4 levels of Zhong Yuan Qigong. Big Tree is one of the most powerful exercises to gather large amounts of Qi from the Earth and Sky, and we do this by learning from our Trees themselves. It is pure Magic!
In addition to Big Tree, we will also dive into the simple yet powerful Self Healing Qigong practice. This will be done before Big Tree meditation. Self Healing Qigong stems from the principle that we are all our best health keepers. All problems that can eventually turn into a major serious health condition or crisis, first show symptoms – often times symptoms that most doctors won’t be able to detect, but that we can feel/sense in our own body. These are important to listen to. These signs/symptoms will come as either: 1) external signs (such as skin problems, change in tongue color, our behavior, movement, looking tired or fatigued, etc); or 2) internal feelings – such as a change in mood, energy, or emotions. Two main ways to give our bodies a chance for self healing if such a symptom arises is: 1) deep sleep; and 2) dynamic movement – this can be dance, and/or self-healing qigong – movement that is spontaneous – not head-directed, but body-directed. We will do this practice each session as a way to give our body a chance to heal itself. This body-directed movement can open space, freedom in our physical, energetic and spiritual bodies, and create an opening for both healing and inner joy to bubble up and shine forth.
Come join me in this wonderful journey, combining dynamic healing movement with learning from our most ancient and greatest Qigong Grandmasters, our Big Trees!
No previous qigong experience is necessary. Beginners and returning students are welcome!
Background on Qigong
Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”) is an ancient and evolving Chinese system of breath, meditation and movement. It is comprised of simple, yet powerful exercises that cleanse and develop our physical, energetic and spiritual anatomies. Born from observing the vitality, harmony, power, wildness and cycles of nature, qigong gives us tools to receive from nature and cultivate these qualities in ourselves. The practice of qigong opens a pathway of adventure, self development and discovery in both our inner and outer wilderness, and leads to lifetime of vitality and wellbeing.
The Zhong Yuan (ZY) Qigong lineage is one of the world’s most ancient and complete healing and self-development systems, a practice combining movement, breath, and the meditative mind to store and focus energy for personal transformation and healing. Distinguished both by its simplicity, and a lineage steeped in Buddhism, Daoism and Shamanism dating back over 7,000 years, this practice draws on the accumulated energy and consciousness of generations of masters, with Grandmaster Mingtang Xu being the current lineage holder.
One of the many benefits from Qigong is the natural cultivation of good health, peace and happiness! It naturally starts to exude from our pores, and shine from our eyes and soul, as Qigong establishes an inner harmony connected to the Great Harmony of Mother Earth and the Cosmos.
Come enjoy movement in our bodies and learn from our Big Trees and join us on this 5-week journey! 🙂
I look forward to practicing with you!!
